Hilton has hired Jeff Moore, a vice president of software engineering at Uber, as executive vice president and chief technology officer. The company announced the appointment on October 6.
What happened
According to Hilton’s announcement, Moore starts on October 26, reports to president and CEO Chris Nassetta, and joins Hilton’s Executive Committee. At Uber he led a global organization of 2,500 engineers supporting Uber Eats, Uber for Business, and the company’s growth and marketing technology. Hilton also lists earlier roles at Amazon, including as a founding leader within Fulfillment by Amazon, and at Anheuser-Busch.
Why it matters to operators
A brand’s technology chief shapes which guest-facing and property-facing systems owners and management companies are offered or expected to run. Hilton’s release points to two live programs: AI-powered trip planning that connects search to stay, and a modernized technology platform meant to let Hilton roll out guest tools such as personalized digital messaging quickly. It says the aim is efficiency and profitability for owners alongside guest customization at scale.
The release does not say what Moore will change, which vendors are affected, or what the technology budget is. Owners and franchisees should read the next few quarters of brand technology announcements as the first real signal.
One thing to watch
Guest messaging is also where property-level vendors are shipping: Mews launched native guest messaging and automations for its PMS customers, and AI for labor planning is the territory of Unifocus’ Claira. Where a brand-run platform and a property-level vendor overlap, operators will want to know early which one the brand expects them to use.
