Toast introduced Toast IQ Team on October 6, a labor management product for restaurant and retail operators that bundles sales forecasting, scheduling, staff contests, payroll and tip management.

Toast’s release leads with one number: restaurants using its scheduling solution averaged 41% fewer overtime hours per employee than Toast restaurants not using it. The release’s footnote gives the basis. It is Toast internal and customer data from July 2025 to 2026, comparing restaurants on Scheduling Pro, the product that existed before the bundle, with Toast restaurants not on it. The footnote adds that the data does not account for the other Toast IQ Team offerings. The new Scheduling Agent, which builds a schedule from employee availability, expected sales and overtime risk, is labeled beta.

Why it matters

The 41% describes Scheduling Pro, Toast’s earlier scheduling software, across its customer base. The beta Scheduling Agent in the launch is outside that comparison. Toast also says individual results will vary. The contest figures follow the same pattern. The 10% average sales lift on featured items comes from 96 menu item contests run between February and June 2026, and the 14% alcohol lift at MugShots Bar & Grill compares one four-day contest in June with the same days of the previous week.

Toast set the launch against its own survey of 676 restaurant decision-makers at operators with 16 or fewer locations, in which 86% said they are experimenting with AI for business purposes.

What operators can do with it

Restaurant groups already on Toast can ask for overtime results from the Scheduling Agent itself, once it leaves beta, before paying for the bundle on the strength of the 41%. Groups on other platforms can use the footnote as a template for any vendor’s labor claim: ask what was compared, over what period, and whether the AI feature was in the sample. The same question applies to hotel labor tools such as Unifocus Claira, and to restaurant platforms bundling more functions, as DoorDash’s DashOS does for ordering, loyalty and reservations.
